What is the difference between duplication and replication:
It is important to understand the differences so you can select which process is ideal for your particular project.
Duplication method:
Duplication is similar to burning a CD or DVD on your desktop computer. A duplicator copies the data to a hard drive and then burns it to a blank discs.
The main difference between burning on your laptop and burning on Adam Design’s duplicators is that while you can usually only burn one disc at time we can quickly burn large quantities on our duplicating towers. Each tower has 11 burners and once the data on the hard drive has burnt to the discs the information is verified against the master which completes the burning process. During burning the data is copied sequentially onto existing blank discs.
The main advantage of duplication is that the turnaround time is very quick and if required Adam Design can produce hundreds of CD’s and DVD's for same day delivery. The only real disadvantage is that duplication is slightly more expensive than replication.
Replication method:
Compact disc replication, sometimes called pressing, is the traditional method of producing commercial compact discs which are replicated in large quantities using a master version created from a source recording.
Replication differs from burning, as the pits and lands are moulded into a disc when the disc is being created, so the entire disc is created in one physical stamping operation. The label is then printed directly onto the disc and is finished off with protective layers, etc.
The main advantage of replication over duplicated is that the cost per unit is lower. The main disadvantage is that production time takes longer with delivery time usually around 10 business days from proof approval. This includes pressing the discs, printing the discs, printing of the insert materials and packaging. Another disadvantage is that the minimum economic run is 500 discs although we will provide 300 if required though the cost for 300 is more expensive than if we duplicate them.
